Lonnie Stephenson Memorial
Sgt. Lonnie Stephenson was born August 23, 1934 to Lonzo and Lila M. Jackson Stephenson in Gilmer, TX. He passed away August 13, 2010. After graduating Summerfield Community and Bruce High School in 1954, Sgt. Stephenson enlisted January 15, 1957 in the USAF. He continued his education in the USAF. He also starred as a basketball player and received many trophies and awards. After serving in Vietnam, Security Police, he retired from the Air Force in January 31, 1987 as Chief Master Sergeant.
After retiring, he taught Sunday School at St. John Baptist Church and Ministered at Pleasant M. Gilead Baptist Church (Ft. Worth, TX). He was a mentor to many.
He will be missed by many including his cherished and loving sisters, Laurene Stephenson, Kirby and Lora Jean Stephenson; daughter, Lonetta Jones and granddaughter, Janea Swindle; Goddaughter, Zina (Greg) Grant and children, Marquetta and Tiffene; niece, Lyrissa (Joe) Williams; great nieces, Larandria and Larana; great nephews, Randalyn and Ranquintas; and many cousins and friends.
I am extremely proud to call him my friend, my former NCO, 1966. I will always call him Sarge!
